Swindon Mecca Bingo Sold

We have just heard that the Mecca Bingo Club in Swindon is going to be closed down, giving member on a weeks notice of the closure. This news has left members that play at the Mecca Bingo Club situated in Swindon Town Centre feeling saddened by the loss and confused about the short notice of the closure.

It is believe that a regeneration project planned for the Town Centre might be responsible for the speedy decision. Although Town Councilor, Phil Young who is responsible for economic development and regeneration said that they would be more than happy for the Mecca Bingo Club to continue its operations and the decision for closure had been entirely at the discretion of Mecca Bingo. They had not given any directive to Mecca Bingo to close the club. Mecca Bing have however confirmed that they have sold the building to the Swindon Town Council.

It is always sad to see Bingo hall closures as they form an integral part of the community. This particular building has been part of the Swindon community since 1929 when it was a Cinema. It has changed names a few times and in 1974 it was turned into a bingo hall known as the Top Rank Club.
